Η συρρίκνωση των δαπανών υγείας στην Ελλάδα κατά την περίοδο της κρίσης: η περίπτωση του Πανεπιστημιακού Γενικού Νοσοκομείου «Αττικόν»
Abstract
Greece suffered one of the worst debt crises in its history in 2009 and was forced to sign a Financial Adjustment Program with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the European Commission and the European Central Bank (ECB) in 2010 in order to borrow funds. The financing or rescue program required a series of budgetary measures. The aim of the measures was to reduce public expenditure through structural reforms in the public sector. This research was intended to investigate the contraction in health spending in Greece during the crisis period by focusing on the case of the University General Hospital Attikon . A primary quantitative survey was conducted on 86 persons holding a position of responsibility in the Hospital s Nursing Service. The selection of this sample was made in order to combine the reduction of the budget with the effectiveness of the hospital and to highlight the importance of research. The data were processed through the SPSS programme. According to the results of the survey, women, aged 56 to 67, who have been working in a position of responsibility in PGN Attikon for over 16 years and who have not served in a position of responsibility at another hospital argue to a higher extent that the government should \nproceed immediately to the recruitment of permanent staff in order to improve the efficiency of the hospital. In addition, postgraduate or doctoral degree holders are more in agreement with the reduction in the budget and note that there have been cases where they did not have the necessary materials due to their lack. It was also observed that secondary or higher education graduates and those who have not served in a position of responsibility in another hospital are more satisfied with the efficiency of \nthe health services provided by the hospital PGN Attikon. Finally, it became clear that the more the respondents agree with the reduction in hospital budgets, the more they accept the fact that there have been cases where the patient has been asked to buy materials due to lack of any, resulting in patient complaints regarding this matter.
