Abstract

The prevalence of mental disorders in our country is increasing due to the economic crisis and the severe consequences that are observed in society and in the individual. It is noteworthy that at the present time when this Diploma Thesis is being written, the planet is plagued by the coronavirus pandemic (covid-19), with thousands of deaths and serious mental health effects. The provision of mental health services is therefore an urgent need for the entire population. In recent decades worldwide with the Psychiatric Reform movement the care of people with chronic mental disorders has been transferred to sheltered shelters in the community with the aim of improving their quality of life and their psychosocial reintegration. In Greece, respectively, deinstitutionalization takes place in the early ‘80s with the implementation of community housing programs. The object of this work is the description of the operation of existing housing structures in Greece. Parameters such as quality of life, position, participation and active involvement of recipients in mental health services are also analyzed. The effectiveness of community mental health services in the psychosocial rehabilitation of people with mental illness is then investigated. At the end, the conclusions are presented where they partially confirm the goals of the Psychiatric Reform . Closing Psychiatric Hospitals and creating psychosocial and vocational rehabilitation units such as boarding schools, hostels, sheltered apartments has changed the lives of the chronically ill, conditions of hospitalization and general care have improved. mental illness.
