Estudo retrospectivo de casos de mixoma odontogênico diagnosticados em um Serviço de Histopatologia Oral / Retrospective study of odontogenic myxoma cases diagnosed in an Oral Pathology Center
Abstract
Radiograficamente as lesoes eram radiolucidas e multiloculares. Methods: this retrospective study was carried out from the collection of the laboratory of oral pathology of the Federal University of Pernambuco, in which all cases of odontogenic myxoma diagnosed during the period from 2000 to 2018 were reviewed, according to data obtained from the record histological examination request. Subsequently, all OM cases were reassessed microscopically. A descriptive statistical analysis was performed. Results: There were found ten cases of odontogenic myxoma, representing 0.15% of all lesions diagnosed in the period. The myxoma mainly affected women in the third decade of life. The most common location was the mandible, and the main characteristic was the asymptomatic volume increase. Radiographically the lesions were radiolucent and multilocular. In all of the lesions, typical mesenchymal, fusiform, rounded or stellate cells dispersed in an abundant myxoid matrix were observed. Conclusions : OM had preference for women in the third decade of life. The lesions occurred mostly in the mandible, asymptomatic, being the volume increase the most frequent clinical sign. There was no unusual histological findings. Keywords: Myxoma, Odontogenic tumors, Retrospective studies
