DISKRIMINASI DAN RESISTENSI DIFABEL DALAM NOVELET RATNA INDRASWARI IBARHIM “BATU SANDUNG” (Discrimination and Resistance of Diffablein Ratna Indraswari Ibrahim “Batu Sandung”)

Abstract

Novelet Batu Sandung karya Ratna Indraswari Ibrahim merupakan salah satu karya sastra yang membahas tentang kaum difabel. Sebagai seorang difabel, Ratna menuliskan karya yang menggambarkan kehidupan sosial pengidap difabilitas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap bentuk-bentuk diskriminasi terhadap kaum difabel serta resistensi mereka. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan teori sosiologi sastra Ian Watt. Teori ini mempercayai bahwa sastra mencerminkan realitas sosial. Dari hasil kajian yang telah dilakukan, novelet ini memotret dua bentuk diskriminasi terhadap kaum difabel, yaitu perhatian yang terlalu istimewa dan ketiadaan pengakuan akan kemampuan mereka. Untuk merespon diskriminasi tersebut, difabel melakukan dua resistensi yang berupa: menyembunyikan diri dan membuktikan kemampuan. Studi ini juga membuktikan bahwa difabel dalam Batu Sandung adalah individu yang mampu mengatasi diskriminasi sosial dengan membangun resistensi positif dalam bentuk kegigihan dan usaha untuk menampilkan kemampuan terbaik. As a person with a disability, Ratna wrote works that described the social life of people with disabilities. This study aims to uncover the forms of discrimination against people with disabilities and their resistance. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method by using Ian Watt’s sociological literature theory. This theory believes that literature reflects social reality. The result of this study is that this novelet portrays two forms of discrimination against people with disabilities, namely overly special attention and lack of recognition of their capabilities. To respond to this discrimination, the disabled perform two resistances in the form of: hiding herself and proving capability. This study also proves that the disabled in Batu Sandung is an individual who is able to overcome social discrimination by building positive resistance in the form of persistence and efforts to show her best capabilities.
