Bilateral Geographic Atrophy of the Retina in Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome Associated with Cryptococcal Meningitis
Abstract
Cryptococcal infections may occur in 5-10% of patients with AIDS and are associated with both direct and indirect ocular complications. It may result in meningitis and secondary ocular involvement such as chorioretinitis and endophthalmitis. We describe a rare case of extensive geographic atrophy of the retina in an HIV-patient presenting 10 years after hospitalization for cryptococcal meningitis.
