Studi Literatur Perbandingan Aktivitas Antibakteri Ekstrak Daun dan Buah Labu Siam (Sechium edule Jacq. Swartz) terhadap Bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dan Escherichia coli

Abstract

ABSTRACT: Chayote ( Sechium edule Jacq. Swartz) leaves and fruit has numerous health benefits. Antibacterial qualities are one of the features of chayote leaves and fruit. The goal of this study was to investigate the antibacterial activity of chayote ( Sechium edule Jacq. Swartz) leaf and fruit extracts against Staphylococcus aureus (Gram positive bacteria) and Escherichia coli (Gram negative bacteria). This investigation was carried out using secondary data by the literature study approach. The data was then evaluated in relation to the antibacterial activity of the leaves against the chayote fruit. According to the findings of this literature review, the chayote leaf extract is more effective at inhibiting Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli germs. The antibacterial activity was determined using the diffusion method, which included disc diffusion for Staphylococcus aureus bacteria and well diffusion for Escherichia coli bacteria. Chayote leaf and fruit extracts respectively had inhibitory diameters of 8.5 mm at 40% concentration and 7.21 mm at 50% concentration against Staphylococcus aureus and 20.46 mm and 19.3 mm against Escherichia coli . Salah satu khasiat dari daun dan buah labu siam adalah sebagai antibakteri. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk membandingkan aktivitas antibakteri dari ekstrak daun dan buah labu siam ( Sechium edule Jacq. Swartz) terhadap Staphylococcus aureus (bakteri Gram positif) dan Escherichia coli (bakteri Gram negatif). Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan metode studi literatur menggunakan data sekunder. Kemudian data tersebut dianalisis terkait dengan perbandingan aktivitas antibakteri daun dan buah labu siam. Hasil studi literatur ini menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak daun labu siam lebih baik dalam menghambat bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dan Escherichia coli . Pengujian aktivitas antibakteri menggunakan metode difusi, yaitu difusi cakram untuk bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dan difusi sumuran untuk bakteri Escherichia coli . Diameter hambat ekstrak daun dan buah labu siam terhadap Staphylococcus aureus berturut-turut adalah 8,5 mm pada konsentrasi 40% dan 7,21 mm pada konsentrasi 50%, sedangkan terhadap Escherichia coli adalah 20,46 mm dan 19,3 mm.
