Kent Perspektifinden Ekonomik Boyutuyla Üniversite Algısı: Adıyaman Örneği

Abstract

The universities, which have become a multifunctional urban institution with social changes, have started to play a role in the economic and social development of the environment in which they are located, besides their traditional functions. The universities, which have carried out important functions especially in the economic dimension of urban development, have been seen as a means of development in many countries and therefore have been spreaded in underdeveloped regions. Also in each province of Turkey which is underdeveloped and limited development potential, an university was established with the belief that universities will create economic impact that will be an important tool in the development of these provinces. The aim of this research –in the case of Adiyaman province and Adiyaman University- is to determine the effects of the universities, which are spreaded all over the country and thought as a tool of development to remove interregional inequalities, to the urban economic development of the cities in which they were established. For this purpose, it was tried to determine the perceptions and opinions of the city components about the functions of the University towards the urban economy. In the research, mixed method approach in which both quantitative and qualitative methods are used was chosen; the data were obtained by questionnaire and interview techniques. As a result of the research, it is determined that Adiyaman University has functions which are thought to be positive, negative and inadequate intended for the urban economy, and that the expenditure-based economic effects of Institution are strong but information-based economic effects are weak.
