Abstract


Ankara, a step town in the period of the Ottoman Empire, has started to be restructured together with being the capital during the Republic period and dynamic Turkey Republic’s frame of mind and its intellectuality. The old techniques that were used during the Ottoman Empire period were put aside and the buildings were constructed by using European style reinforced concrete and steel reinforcement systems instead. \xa0It has become a modern city being no longer a town in a short period of time with the projects carried by local and foreign architects. With the newly established Republic, in accordance with the innovations it developed in social, economic, educational, cultural and state administration, there was a need for a modern parliament building that would provide school, hospital, bank, ministry, social and cultural structures and administration. In this scientific research paper, the capital of Turkey Republic period, Ankara has two prominent symbols; 2nd Parliament building and the architectural features and tiles decorations of Ankara Palace will be discussed. The decorations which were extensively used during the Seljuk and Ottoman periods have lost importance with westernization of Ottoman Empire. When the architecture of the structures subject to research is examined. As a result of Europe’s adaptation to modern architecture, the use of reinforced concrete and steel reinforcement systems in these constructions is a matter of question. When the decoration features of these works are examined, it is seen that Turkish decorative elements are totally used. In this scientific research paper, the tiles used in both buildings will be tried to be determined in the art of Turkish tiles and these tiles will be introduced to the scientific community.
