S. P. SHEVYREV’S UNPUBLISHED MESSAGE TO THE YOUNG PROFESSORS OF THE MOSCOW UNIVERSITY

Abstract

S. P. Shevyrev’s message «V narode, k znaniyu gotovom…» («Amid the folk eager to be educated...»), written to honor the promulgation of the new University Charter of 1835, is published in the article. The poem is addressed to the young professors of the Moscow University, being a response to an important event in the life of the Russian academic community. The message testifi es to Shevyrev’s wholehearted support of the Uvarov Triad, which served as the foundation for the Ministry of Public Education policies.
