PEMBERDAYAAN KEMAMPUAN BERPIKIR KRITIS SISWA KELAS VIII MELALUI MODEL PEMBELAJARAN PREDICT OBSERVE AND EXPLAIN (POE)

 
 

Abstract


Pembelajaran IPA di kelas VIII SMP Negeri 13 Palembang belum melibatkan siswa sepenuhnya karena pembelajaran masih bersifat konvensional, sehingga siswa kurang aktif dan kurang memaksimalkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa. Diperlukan pembelajaran yang menerapkan model pembelajaran yang bersifat faktual sehingga siswa mampu menggali pengetahuan yang didapat dan mampu berpikir dengan kritis, seperti model POE ( Predict Observe and Explain ). Tujuan penelitian adalah memberdayakan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 13 Palembang menggunakan model pembelajaran POE. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian adalah metode penelitian quasi experiment dengan kelas kontrol dan kelas eksperimen. Pembelajaran dengan model POE dilakukan sebanyak dua pertemuan pada pembelajaran IPA materi sistem pernapasan. Instrumen untuk mengetahui kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa adalah soal pilihan ganda, mengacu pada kriteria berpikir kritis Facione (2013): interpretasi, analisis, evaluasi, kesimpulan, penjelasan, dan pengaturan diri. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif kuantitatif menggunakan persentase. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa adanya pemberdayaan berpikir kritis melalui model POE dalam pembelajaran IPA materi sistem pernapasan di SMP Negeri 13 Palembang. Secara keseluruhan (dari 6 indikator berpikir kritis) kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran POE termasuk kritis, sedangkan kemampuan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa dengan pembelajaran tanpa model POE berada pada kategori tidak kritis. Natural science learning in class VIII of State Junior High School (SMP Negeri) 13 Palembang has not fully involved students because learning was still conventional, so students were less active and did not maximize students critical thinking ability. Learning model that applies a factual learning was needed so that students were able to explore the knowledge gained and to think critically, such as POE (Predict Observe and Explain) model. The research purpose was to empower students’ critical thinking ability of class VIII SMP Negeri 13 Palembang using the POE learning model. The method used in this research was a quasi experiment research with the control class and the experimental class. Learning by the POE model was done by two meetings on the natural science learning of respiratory system material. The instrument to determine students critical thinking ability was the multiple choice test, referring to Facione s critical thinking criteria (2013): interpretation, analysis, evaluation, conclusions, explanations, and self-regulation. Data were analyzed descriptively quantitatively using percentages. The results showed that the existence of empowerment of critical thinking through POE model on the natural science learning of respiratory system material in SMP Negeri 13 Palembang. Overall (out of the 6 indicators of critical thinking) students critical thinking ability using POE learning model were critical, while students critical thinking ability without POE model learning were in the uncritical category.
