Abstract

Аbstract. The World Games are the main competitions in non-Olympic sport. Their popularity is constantly increased, and the results of the performances of national teams are a criterion for the development of this direction of sport in the country. There are few studies of the ratio of power between the countries participating in the World Games, but the question of assessing the effectiveness of the participation of national teams in these competitions has not been considered. Objective. Evaluate the effectiveness of performances at the World Games of the national teams of Italy and Ukraine. Methods. Analysis of literature sources, documentary materials and information on the Internet; synthesis and generalization; comparison; system approach; methods of mathematical statistics. Results. The research shows the high level of non-Olympic sport functioning in Italy and the ositive dynamics of its development in Ukraine. A comparative analysis of the success of the performances of the national teams of both countries allowed us to establish common and distinctive features. The common ones include: similar average coefficients of efficiency of participation of national teams in the World Games in the period from 2005 to 2017, high level of development of women’s sports, low level of development of team sports events (except for canoe polo for Italy). Distinctive features are the advantage in such indices as the experience of participating in the World Games; the number of athletes who represented the country at competitions; sports events in which medals were won; sports events with high efficiency coefficients of winning medals. It is determined that to maintain the team result achieved by Ukraine at the World Games, it is necessary that the number of competition participants was at least 2.4% of the total number who would be able to win at least 10 gold medals. To compete with Italian athletes, these indices must be higher: 3.1% of the total number of participants and 15 gold medals. \nKeywords: non-Olympic sport, World Games, national teams, team standings.
