STUDY OF FOUR-WHEEL STEERING SYSTEMS’ VIABILITY IN FUTURE AUTOMOBILES
Abstract
- Presently, all vehicles have a two-wheel\nsteering system irrespective of the vehicle being\nfront wheel driven, rear wheel driven or all-wheel\ndriven. A four-wheel steering system known as\n“quadra steering” system is a system in which\nboth the front wheels and rear wheels get steered\naccording to the speed of the vehicle and space\navailable for turning. This system makes the\nvehicle more stable and enhances its\nperformance. In this report, the performance of\nquadra steering system has been considered\nunder low speed, medium speed and high-speed\nconditions. For parking and low speed\nconditions, rear wheels are turned in the opposite\ndirections while at medium and high-speed\nconditions, rear wheels and front wheels are\nturned in the same direction. As a result, the\nvehicle becomes more stable and its turning\nradius reduces greatly.\n
