Las colegiatas de Andalucía ante el Concordato de 1851

Abstract

espanolCon este trabajo se pretende dar a conocer una faceta poco conocida de la historia institucional de la Iglesia: la de la disolucion de la mayoria de las colegiatas espanolas con motivo de la aplicacion del Concordato de 1851. Para ello se ha optado por el analisis de una documentacion muy concreta como son las exposiciones realizadas por los propios cabildos colegiales para intentar evitar el destino senalado y conseguir la conservacion de sus instituciones. En especial, aquellas que fueron enviadas al nuncio apostolico en busca de su intermediacion con el Gobierno de Espana y que se conservan en el Archivo Secreto Vaticano. Gracias a ello se ha podido analizar este proceso legal desde el punto de vista de las instituciones suprimidas. En sus misivas al nuncio no solo aparece reflejada su preocupacion ante las medidas liberales, sino cuales creian ellos que eran las fortalezas de sus colegiatas y la mejor estrategia para evitar la desaparicion. EnglishThe present paper aims to throw some light on a rather unknown aspect of the institutional history of the Church, namely, the dissolution of most Spanish Collegiate Churches on account of the enforcement of the Concordat of 1851. In order to do so, we have chosen to analyze a very specific kind of documents: the expositions drafted by Collegiate Church Councils in an attempt to avoid their designated fate and to warrant the preservation of their institutions, particularly those expositions sent to the Apostolic Nuncio looking for his mediation with the Spanish Government and which are now kept at the Vatican Secret Archives. In light of such documentation, we have been able to study this legal process from the viewpoint of the suppressed institutions. In their letters to the Nuncio, they revealed not only their grave concerns in the face of liberal measures, but also what they believed to be the strengths of their Collegiate churches and the best strategy to avert their demise.
