Consolidation Problem on the Clayey Soil With Containing High Groundwater Level

Abstract

In this study, the settlement problem in Ilgin district, which has high groundwater level at the northwest of Konya and is widely clay, is investigated. In order to determine the settlement characteristics of the investigated area, a research pit was opened at different points and drilling and UD samples were taken. Experiments were conducted on these soil samples. The compaction index (Cc), the compaction index (Cr), the consolidation coefficient (Cv) and the consolidation settlement were calculated according to the results of the consolidation test applied to the samples consisting mostly of clay and thin soil materials. As a result, it was determined that the ground water level and the consolidation of soils were effective in the deformations observed in the buildings in Ilgin settlement area.
