DIFFERENCES EFFECT OF GREEN COCONUT AND GREEN GRASS JELLY WATER ON BLOOD PRESSURE CHANGES IN HYPERTENSION PATIENTS

Abstract

BACKGROUND Hypertension (high blood pressure that does not decrease) is a risk factor for stroke, coronary heart disease (CHD), heart failure, kidney failure, and arterial aneurysm (blood vessel disease). The content of young coconut water that can lower blood pressure is potassium. Potassium in the extracellular fluid will cause the heart to relax and also make the heart rate slow. Green grass jelly contains bioactives, one of which is phenol, which has a role in reducing hypertension. OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in the effect of giving young coconut water and green grass jelly on changes in blood pressure in patients with hypertension . METHODS This study uses a quasi-experimental design and a two-group pre-post-test design approach with purposive sampling technique. The sample size was 30 respondents divided into two groups, the first group was given young coconut water and the second group was given green grass jelly. In the first group, young coconut water was given for 7 consecutive days 2 times a day, then the second group was given green grass jelly for 7 consecutive days 2 times a day. Both groups were measured before and after treatment on the first and last days. RESULTS The results showed that after young coconut water, there was a decrease in systolic blood pressure of 1 0,6 mmHg from the difference between pre and post test results (152.25-1 41 . 6 5 mmHg), and diastolic blood pressure of 9.625 mmHg from the difference between pre and post-test (97.375 – 87 , 75 mmHg), while in the green grass jelly water group there was a decrease in systolic blood pressure of 1 4 . 12 5 mmHg from the difference between pre and post test (15 4 .375-1 39 . 25 mmHg), then diastolic blood pressure showed a decrease of 1 2 .325 mmHg with the results (98.125 - 8 5 , 8 mm Hg). CONCLUSION The conclusion of this study is that there is a significant difference between the results of the first group (young coconut water) and the second group (green grass jelly) on reducing blood pressure (systolic) with the results of the Mann-Whitney Test obtained P value 0.001 or P <0.05, then on blood pressure (diastolic) also obtained a significant difference in the results of the effect with the results of the Mann-Whitney Test obtained P = 0.000
