Abstract

Introduction. Among some comorbidities, the patient with chronic kidney disease (CKD) will experience a change in routine and in the capacity for autonomy, fear, anxiety, depression, fatigue, and cognitive impairment. In Brazil, in July 2017, there were 126,583 CKD patients. Objective. To present a literature review on the most used and performed interventions by Music Therapy during the treatment of hemodialysis. Method. The bibliographic survey was structured in publications found in the Scielo, Bireme, Pubmed, Google Scholar databases in the period with keywords: hemodialysis music therapy in the period from 2016 to 2020. Results: There were nine articles eight aimed at the adult population and only one aimed at the pediatric hemodialysis unit. Of this total, six studies were carried out by health professionals, and only three by music therapists. Conclusion. Music therapy can support comfort, welcome, stress reduction and promote time optimization. All the researches used music in a receptive way, the majority applied by health professionals, only two studies conducted by music therapists. We can conclude that there is still little scientific production carried out by music therapists in hemodialysis units, especially pediatric ones.
