Avaliação do estado nutricional e consumo alimentar de pacientes renais crônicos em hemodiálise / Nutritional status avaliation and fook intake of renal chronic patients in hemodialysis
Abstract
Introduction: Patients on hemodialysis (HD) have a high prevalence of proteinenergy malnutrition (DEP) and several causes are identified for this DEP. On the other hand, values indicative of overweight and obesity are increasing in the general population, which is reflected in individuals with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The characterization of nutritional status is fundamental for CKD patients, both to indicate adequate intervention and to prevent malnutrition. However, determining the nutritional diagnosis of these patients remains a challenge for health professionals. Objective: to determine the nutritional status of chronic renal patients undergoing hemodialysis and to investigate the possible associations between dietary ingestion of macronutrients and nutritional status. Methodology: 49 patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment at the nephrology department of Instituto de Medicina Integral Professor Fernando Figueira (IMIP). In order to determine the nutritional status, anthropometric measurements (dry weight, height, body mass index (BMI), arm circumference (CB), triceps skin fold (DCT), and biochemical data were used. Results/Discussion: Overweight as evidenced by DCT was more frequent in males whereas females showed better somatic protein reserve, evidence by CMB. Most patients presented energy consumption below their needs. Individuals with adequate energy consumption had a better average number of albumin and higher consumption of proteins. Conclusion: Changes in nutritional status are prevalent in renal hemodialysis patients, with the calorie and protein intake of these patients being below the recommended level.
