ХРИСТИЯНСЬКІ МОТИВИ І ОБРАЗИ В ОНЕЙРИЧНОМУ ПРОСТОРІ РОМАНУ Л. УЛИЦЬКОЇ «КАЗУС КУКОЦЬКОГО»

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to characterize the oneiric space of L. Ulitskaya’s novel “The case of Kukotsky” in the light of the reflection of elements of the Christian worldview in it. The chronotope of the work is rather complicated, it combines the real world associated with historical time, “other” space and time (or “the other being”), as well as dreams that come to the heroine both in real time and in “the other being”. The boundary between the last two spatio-temporal locus is blurred, so we conditionally combined them into the category “oneiric space”. There is no doubt that the oneiric space created in the novel bears the imprint of the Christian worldview and is associated with the main themes of the novel – the man s wandering and struggling in the earthly life, family, love, human choice and duty. An important place in it belongs to Christian symbolic images, among which are images of symbols of the desert and travelers, doors (a door in the rock), fire, a shepherd and sheep, a pillar of light, a trumpet voice, the New Earth. The heroes’ path in “the other being” itself is associated with purgatory in the Catholic dogma. The oneiric space of the novel contains many allegories that deepen the philosophical problems of the work and becomes the key to understanding both the central images-characters of the novel and the author’s worldview.
