Problematika Teologis Hubungan Istilah Gereja dan Israel

Abstract

The terms Church and Israel are two words which have always been the subject of much debate among Christian theologians. There are those who try to separate these terms by using the argument that the two terms do have very different essences and are contradictory or two terms that are discontinuity. On the other hand there are also those who try to unify the two words with the argument that the two words are inseparable because they have the same essence or continuity. However, based on an analysis of the two terms, the same essence is found between the Church in the New Testament and Israel in the Old Testament. These two terms cannot be separated and refer to the same meaning which is God s people Abstrak Istilah Gereja dan Israel merupakan dua kata yang selalu menjadi bahan perdebatan di kalangan teolog Kristen. Ada yang berusaha memisahkan istilah tersebut dengan menggunakan argumentasi bahwa kedua istilah itu memang memiliki esensi yang sangat berbeda dan patut dipertentangkan atau dua istilah yang bersifat diskontinuitas. Di pihak lain ada juga yang berusaha untuk menyatukan kedua kata itu dengan argumentasi bahwa kedua kata tersebut memang tidak dapat dipisahkan karena memiliki esensi yang sama atau bersifat kontinuitas. Namun berdasarkan analisis terhadap kedua istilah tersebut, maka ditemukan adanya esensi yang sama antara Gereja dalam Perjanjian Baru dengan Israel dalam Perjanjian Lama. Kedua istilah ini tidak dapat dipisahkan dan merujuk kepada makna yang sama yakni umat Allah.
