Manifestações Bucais do Eritema Multiforme

Abstract

Erythema multiforme is a bullous and ulcerative mucocutaneous condition of uncertain etiopathogenesis. It presents a difficult diagnosis and may be related to a hypersensitive state of the patient. In about 50% of cases, the clinician can identify a previous infection, such as herpes. simplex or Mycoplasma pneumoniae, or less frequently exposure to various drugs and medications, particularly antibiotics or painkillers. These agents trigger an immune reaction that produces the disease. Sophisticated molecular biology techniques have demonstrated the presence of herpes simplex DNA in patients with recurrent erythema multiforme, thus supporting the concept of a precipitating immune event.
