Abstract

The thyroid gland, usually located below and anterior to the\nlarynx, consists of two bulky lateral lobes connected by a\nrelatively thin isthmus. The thyroid is divided by thin \uf001brous\nseptae into lobules composed of about 20 to 40 evenly\ndispersed follicles, lined by a cuboidal to low columnar\n[1] epithelium, and \uf001lled with PAS-positive thyroglobulin. The\nthyroid secretes hormones that control the heart rate, blood\npressure, body temperature and basal metabolic rate
