CARBON CAPTURE AND UTILIZATION
Abstract
Novel Non-Aqueous Solvent Systems We are developing novel solvents and process technologies that substantially reduce the parasitic power load and capital cost associated with conventional amine-based CO2 capture. Over the past decade, RTI has developed a novel non-aqueous solvent (NAS), eCO2SolTM, to remove CO2 from flue gas via a low-energy CO2/solvent pathway, lowering specific reboiler duty (SRD) to less than 2.3 gigajoule per ton of CO2 (GJ/t-CO2) captured, with the potential to go lower. RTI is currently demonstrating the technology using the existing large-scale pilot infrastructure at the Technology Centre Mongstad in Norway.
