Geoinformatics based Micro-Watershed wise Land capability analysis for Sustainable Land Resources Management

Abstract

Land is one of the important component on which physical, economical and social development depends. The land capability classification is the grouping of land units into defined classes based on its capability. It is a broad grouping of soils based on their limitations and is designed to emphasize the hazards in different kinds of soils. It serves as a guide to assess suitability to the land for agricultural crops, grazing and forestry. The present study GIS methodology to spatially define recommended sustainable land management regimes over the arid zone based on land capability classification criteria. The land capability classification system as applied in this analysis was based substantially on a classification scheme proposed by [1]. Local agronomists and other agricultural technical personnel consider this classification system more applicable for the arid region. Sustainable development is possible only when management goals and actions are economically viable, feasible and socially acceptable.
