Abstract

Objective \nTo explore the protective effects of vitamin C on the oxidative injury by fine particulate matter 2.5 (PM2.5). \n \n \nMethods \nThirty-two healthy adult male wistar rats were selected. We used random number table method and divided patients into four groups(n=8): control group, normal saline group, PM2.5 group, vitamin C group.Pathological morphologic changes were observed under light microscope.MDA、8-OHdG and Hcy in serum were examined. \n \n \nResults \nInfiltration of inflammatory cells, destroyed alveolars, thickened alveoli septum was noted in PM2.5 group, and we found that the exudation of inflammatory cells in alveolar space and impairment of lung tissue reduced in the vitamin C groups. The levels of MDA、8-OHdG and Hcy in serum increased in PM2.5 group compared with the control group and normal saline group. The levels of MDA, 8-OHdG and Hcy in serum were decreased in vitamin C groups. \n \n \nConclusions \nVitamin C plays an antioxidant role in rat oxidative injury models exposed to PM2.5. \n \n \nKey words: \nAscorbic acid;\xa0Particulate matter;\xa0Oxidative injury
