Abstract

Objective \nTo investigate the short-term clinical efficacy of bronchial thermal plasty in the treatment of severe bronchial asthma (asthma). \n \n \nMethods \nThirty patients with severe asthma were treated by bronchial thermoplasty. The peripheral blood inflammatory cells, asthma quality of life questionnaire (AQLQ) and asthma control questionnaire (ACQ) scores, and lung function indexes such as forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), the ratio of forced expiratory volume in one second to forced vital capacity (FEV1/FVC) and peak expiratory flow (PEF) were analyzed before and after treatment. \n \n \nResults \nCompared with prior treatment(PT), after the first treatment(AFT) showed no significant difference in leukocyte and the ratio of neutrophils, lymphocytes and eosinophils, AQLQ improved significantly (t=10.23, P<0.01), ACQ (t=12.31, P<0.01) scores improved significantly, after the second treatment (AST) showed a significant decrease in leukocytes (t=3.135, P<0.01) and a significant decrease in the ratio of neutrophils (t=3.041, P<0.01), the ratio of lymphocytes increased (t=2.20, P<0.01) and the ratio of eosinophils increased (t=2.172, P<0.05), AQLQ scores improved significantly (t=15.80, P<0.01) and ACQ (t=14.30, P<0.01) scores improved significantly, FEV1 increased significantly (t=7.96, P<0.01). The neutrophil ratio in AFT group was positively correlated with FEV1 and PEF (r=0.391 3, 0.373 4, both P<0.05). \n \n \nConclusions \nBronchial thermoplasty can improve inflammation and quality of life in patients. \n \n \nKey words: \nAsthma, bronchial;\xa0Clinical efficacy;\xa0Bronchial thermoplasty
