Correlation between stroke and symmetric ambulatory arterial stiffness index in primary hypertensive patients

 
 
 
 

Abstract


Objective \nTo discuss the correlation of symmetric ambulatory arterial stiffness index (S-AASI) and stroke in primary hypertension patients. \n \n \nMethods \nA total of 220 primary hypertension patients, who were diagnosed by dynamic blood monitoring, cerebral computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from 2017 January to 2018 January, were selected as research objects. According to the medical history and the results of cerebral CT and MRI, the patients were divided into stroke group (n=109) and stroke-free group (n=111). The clinical data and indicators of the two groups were statistically analyzed. Meanwhile, the risk factors of stroke were analyzed by Logistic regression. \n \n \nResults \n① The history of diabetes mellitus, total cholesterol (TC) levels, 24 h systolic pressure, 24 h mean diastolic pressure, 24 h mean arterial pressure and S-AAI scores in stroke group were 32(29.4%), 4.22(3.62, 4.99)mmol/L, (139.39±13.99)mmHg (1 mmHg =0.133 kPa), (82.64±9.60)mmHg, (56.72±10.30)mmHg and 0.31±0.12 respectively, significantly differed from the 14(12.6%), 3.85(3.095, 4.725)mmol/L, (129.62±13.38)mmHg, (78.07±10.39)mmHg, (51.55±10.25)mmHg and 0.27±0.14 in free-stroke group (P<0.05). ②With the stroke-free group as the control group, single and multiple factor logistic regression analysis were performed and found that diabetes, 24 h mean pulse pressure and S-AASI were the risk factors of stroke. \n \n \nConclusions \nPrimary hypertensive patients with a history of stroke have stiffer arteries, as exemplified by a higher S-AASI.Therefore, S-AASI can be used as an indicator to evaluate the risk of stroke in hypertensive patients \n \n \nKey words: \nSymmetric ambulatory arterial stiffness index;\xa0Primary hypertension;\xa0Stroke
