The Study of Urban Commercial Streets

 
 

Abstract


Street plays an important role in a city. It has diverse activities and gives a character to the whole city. Even in recent times, streets are an important and major part representing the identity of cities which also shape as public open space in the city. People hang on these streets for functional, social, and leisure activities, for playing, meeting, communication with other people; and sometimes for relaxation making it more attractive space to facilitate these features. So, this study sheds light on major commercial streets in a city, especially the street which acts as a pillar to the city’s economic growth. Currently, livability is a major thought that must be considered in upgrading urban public spaces, especially more sustainable streets which would pave way for easily accessible to all age groups. Ever since prehistoric times, the livable street has been an area for humans not only to cross or walk, however, additionally to interact in commercial, social, and leisure activities as well. The global trend or the pattern is towards making the streets vibrant that meet needs ranging from food and essential security to magnificence, social impression, and feeling of having a place with local area or spot, urging individuals to remain longer and in this way improving personal satisfaction in public spaces. This study focuses on identifying the strength and weakness of the commercial street such that the livability of the street can be enhanced like with a great connectivity, accessibility and a good physical location, the commercial street vitality can be upgraded.
