Funcionalidad familiar y depresión en adultos mayores en una Institución de Salud de Ciudad Victoria

 
 
 
 

Abstract


Introduction: the family is the fundamental group to increase the health status of older adult, promotes the well-being and development in which psycho-emotional depression is considered a public health problem that involves not only the family intervention but also that health sector. \nObjective: determine the relationship between depression and family functionality in the older adult that it comes to a health unit second-level of attention in Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, Mexico. \nMaterial and methods: Quantitative, descriptive-cross-sectional and correlational study conducted with 139 older adults in a local health institution, using simple random probabilistic sampling throu\xadgh interview and application of the family Apgar and Yesavage scale. Data were analyzed using the SPSS v.22 program through descriptive and inferential statistics. \nResults: average age 68.14 years, female predominance 63%, with primary education 87%; 80% with absence of depressive symptomatology, 81% under a normofunctional family environment. Conclusion: There is a relationship between both variables (p = 0.01). \nConclusion: There is a relationship between both variables (p = 0.01).
