Ruhsal Hastalıklara Yönelik İnanç ve Tutum İlişkisinde Psikiyatri Hemşireliği Eğitiminin Etkisi

 

Abstract


Objective: In this study, it has been aimed to investigate the effect of psychiatric nursing education on the relationship between beliefs and attitudes towards mental illnesses in nursing students. Methods: This study is a descriptive relational study. The data have been obtained from 201 senior students from nursing department who have completed psychiatric nursing clinical practice. The data have been collected by using introductory information form, Scale of Beliefs Towards Mental Illness, Social Attitudes Scale for People with Mental Problems and Psychiatric Nursing Education Evaluation Form. Descriptive statistics and structural equality modeling have been used in the analysis process. Results: A negative and weak correlation has been found between psychiatric nursing education and attitudes towards people with psychological problems (p <0.01). Beliefs towards psychological problems and attitudes towards people with psychological problems are positively and weakly related. (p<0.01). The compatibility between the tested model and the data has been determined. Beliefs about psychological illnesses have influenced attitudes towards individuals with psychological problems (p<0.05). Furthermore, psychiatric nursing education has been found to affect attitudes towards individuals with psychological problems (p < 0.05). Finally, psychiatric nursing education is not a mediator in the interaction of beliefs about psychological illness and attitudes towards individuals with psychological problems (p>0.05). Conclusion: Beliefs towards psychological illness and psychiatric nursing education affect attitudes towards individuals with psychological problems. Psychiatric nursing education has no mediating role in the interaction between beliefs about psychological illness and attitudes towards individuals with psychological problems.
