Abstract

As part of the so-called ‘socialist world system’ of that time, the Hungarian Police consistently copied the pattern of the Soviet Militia for a long time in its mode of operation, structure, ranks and development directions. The socio-political system left its mark on the development of the law enforcement systems of both countries. Following the change of regime, both police forces continued their development on their track, taking into account European and international expectations and best practices. Due to the cross-border nature of the criminality, cooperation with partner authorities in other countries and international law enforcement organisations has become increasingly crucial for both organisations. Among these, cooperation with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) and the European Police Office (Europol) is of paramount importance; however, according to the essence of the cooperation, there are other vital channels to be mentioned. The comparison of the appropriate structures and methods of cooperation sheds light on exciting connections and, according to the authors, can provide valuable experiences.
