Oil Geochemistry in the North Western Desert of Egypt - A Comprehensive Study Including Polar Compounds and Isotopes

Abstract

Despite of a number of organic geochemical studies that have been performed up to now to unravel the geochemistry of the north Western Desert crude oils (Younes, 2005; Abrams et al., 2016; El Diasty et al. 2016), there are still uncertainties in understanding the nature of their compositions that create debates concerning their genetic classification especially in the Shushan Basin. Three oil families have been reported in the Abu Gharadig Basin with terrigenous, marine and mixed marine/terrigenous sources (El Diasty and Moldowan, 2012).
