Abstract

Brazilian youth, poor and peripheral, mostly constituted of young blacks, are defined by rejection and social exclusion. Hip Hop is an expressive, cultural, political and representative practice for black and peripheral people. The purpose of this work is to present university extension projects: “Powerful youth expressions: Body and art” and “Hip-hop on the scene: connecting networks between peripheral art and the university”, realized respectively in the years 2018 and 2019, in a periphery in the Sao Carlos city. The projects aimed to promote spaces for valuing peripheral youth cultures and enable the occupation of public spaces for culture and leisure by young people.
