Formulations of a cosmetic product for hair care based on extract of the microalga Isochrysis galbana: in vivo and in vitro activities

Abstract

The natural cosmetics industry sector is a booming market globally. Recently, interest in the potential of microalgae in cosmetics stems from the fact that they present an emerging source of active ingredients. The work presented in this thesis is part of the promotion of Moroccan microalgae for cosmetic application, the objective of which is the development of new formulations based on the microalga Isochrysis galbana for the care and treatment of hair. After culturing the algal biomass in the laboratory, a series of biological activities were performed, hence the in vitro antibacterial activity against Cutibacterium acnes (ATCC 6919) and Staphylococcus epidermidis (ATCC14990) and another in vivo biological activity which is to control the growth of rabbit hair. All the experiments show results motivated to develop and formulate new cosmetic products based on microalgae extract for hair care.
