Malaria Incidence Mapping In Abraka, Delta State Nigeria
Abstract
The study examined spatial analyses mapping of malaria incidence in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area, Delta State, Nigeria. The study produced a GIS Map of Abraka showing spatial distribution of malaria disease occurrences in order to identify the causes and effects. Secondary data were collected from Abraka and Eku Government hospitals Medical Records units, Ethiope East LGA Delta State, Nigeria. 200 questionnaires were administered to respondents in Abraka in which only 150 copies were retrieved. The retrieved questionnaires were collated and data obtained were presented in form of tables, percentages and graphs. Data on GIS were sourced and analyzed using Arc GIS, 10.4.1 software to producing spatial analysis map showing low medium and high incidence zones in spatial distribution analyses of malaria outbreak in Abraka. The result of the findings also showed that there is a significant difference in the occurrence of malaria among children and adults in Abraka. The study concluded that the occurrence of malaria outbreak is prevalent among children below l0years and adults (l8years and above) in Abraka community. The study therefore recommend that malaria tests should be introduced in the Health Care curriculum in primary schools/ hospitals and made compulsory for children between 0-l5years and especially for the expectants in the stages of their early pregnancies, as the malaria infections are asymptomatic
