Psychometric Properties of a Short Version of the Driving Anger Expression Inventory (DAX) in Spanish Drivers
Abstract
Driving anger and its derived aggressive behaviors may affect driving negatively. In order to assess this kind of behaviors it is necessary to have reliable and valid psycho\xadmetric instruments. One of the most one is the Driving An\xadger Expression Inventory, which in its long form is composed of 50 items. It makes it an excessive long questionnaire. The aim of the present research was to de\xadvelop a brief version of the Driving An\xadger Expression Inventory to assess in few minutes the frequency of different types of anger expression be\xadhind the wheel. Therefore a sample composed of 441 driv\xaders who completed the long version of the Driving An\xadger Expression Inventory. After\xadwards, those items with highest factor loadings in the Con\xadfirmatory Factor Analysis were chosen to compose the new short form. Finally, a 22-item version was proposed. It fitted satisfactorily in five factors, similarly to the long form: Verbal anger expression (α\xa0=\xa0.84); Physical anger expression (α\xa0=\xa0.76); Expression through the vehicle (α\xa0=\xa0.74); Displaced expression (α\xa0=\xa0.78), and Adaptative ex\xadpression (α\xa0=\xa0.77). Implications of the results are dis\xadcussed.
