Abstract


A descriptive study was conducted to assess the level of knowledge on protein energy malnutrition among mothers of under five children in selected areas at Kanchipuram District, Tamil Nadu. The objectives of the study was to assess the level of knowledge on protein energy malnutrition among mothers of under five children and to associate the knowledge on protein energy malnutrition with demographic variables. Research approach for the present study was a quantitative descriptive approach. Quasi Experimental design seems to be the most appropriate design for this study. The study was conducted at Paiyanoor village, Kanchipuram District, Tamil Nadu. Mother of under-five children in the age group of five years residing in Paiyanoor Village, Kanchipuram and The participants of the study were selected by purposive sampling technique. The data analysis was done using descriptive and inferential statistics. Descriptive statistics like frequency, percentage and mean. Chi-square test was used to find out the association between the risk factors and selected personal information sheet of the mothers of under-five. The findings shows that the majority (20%) of the mothers of underfive children having adequate knowledge. The majority (63%) of mothers of under-five having moderate knowledge. The majority (17%) of mothers of under-five having inadequate knowledge.
