Group Conflict, Child Vulnerability and National Security in Nigeria

Abstract

The problem of ethnic agitations in Nigeria is that they are generally characterized by violence. The various segments of the population suffer the unpleasant impacts of the violence although at different degrees. This paper considers the peculiar circumstance of the child within the context of social conflicts as a more pressing problem. This research adopts the expository method, reviewing relevant literatures and documents on the subject. The paper reveals some conditions that expose and increase child vulnerability in armed conflict situations. This paper concludes that the state has the responsibility of operating a national security paradigm that is capable of preserving the well-being of the children population in Nigeria.
