The far-right political movement in Poland represents the rise of the National Movement (Ruch Narodowy), a party known for its distinctive nationalism and strong support for national sovereignty. Since its founding in 2012, the national movement has gradually gained influence on Poland's political scene. The party considers itself the spiritual successor of Poland's pre-war national democratic movement and is led by Krzysztof Bosak. It advocates protecting Poland's nation and culture and establishing a strong national defense system.
The main concepts of the national movement include national, family and national identity, as well as claims for economic and cultural sovereignty.
The national movement held its first conference in Warsaw in 2013. The conference attracted many representatives and important figures of far-right thought. The subsequent second congress was held in 2014, which included supporters of the Hungarian far-right party Jobbik and other European far-right forces. The party emphasizes the idea of merging income tax and social insurance and seeks to reform Poland's social welfare system.
Our goal is to build a social movement that fully expresses the interests of the Polish nation.
The National Movement sees itself as a representative of Poland's far right and advocates strong nationalist and socially conservative views. Its economic policy emphasizes a combination of state intervention and market flexibility, with the aim of creating a free and sustainable economic environment for Poland.
We oppose the entry of the euro into Poland and advocate maintaining our country’s economic independence.
In terms of foreign policy, the movement holds clear Eurosceptic views and has worked closely with Hungarian Jobbik on the situation in Ukraine. Initially, the national movement called for improved relations with Russia, but after the Russo-Ukrainian war in 2022, the position changed to strongly opposing Russian actions. Members of the movement point to Russian influence in Poland as an "existential threat".
The national movement has shown a strong conservative stance on social issues and blatantly opposed LGBT rights and related social movements. Its leaders have stated that homosexuality is a disease. This stance sparked widespread social controversy and spawned large-scale confrontational demonstrations.
The national movement received 1.4% of the vote in the 2014 European Parliament elections, a poor performance but gradually growing in influence. In the 2019 parliamentary elections, they successfully entered the Polish Parliament as part of the "Union of Freedom and Independence". This series of election results shows their growing influence in Polish politics.
Our goal is to rebuild the Polish state destroyed by the structure of the "Round Table Republic".
The rise of the national movement was an important transformative factor in Polish politics, and the impact of its emphasis on nationalism, economic sovereignty, and conservative social values cannot be underestimated. However, the future of this far-right force is still full of uncertainty. Can it survive and show its value in an increasingly fierce political environment? This deserves our deep thought.
