Optical nonlinearities of tetracarbonyl-chromium triphenyl phosphine complex

The new tetracarbonyl — chromium-triphenyl phosphine complex was synthesized and characterized using ultraviolet (UV)–visible, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques. The characterization results confirm the molecular structure of the new complex. The z-scan measurements were done by diode laser [continuous wave (CW)] to estimate the nonlinear optical parameter (χ 3). The results led to calculate three parameters: the ground-state cross sections (), the excited-state cross sections (), and thermo–optic coefficient of the new complex. This study indicated that our complex is a suitable for photonic applications.

Synthesis and characterization of 8-hydroxyquinolin-1-ium 2,2,2-trifluoroacetate and 8-hydroxyquinolin-1-ium 2,2,2-trichloroacetate by z-scan technique

The 8-hydroxyquinolin-1-ium 2,2,2-trifluoroacetate and 8-hydroxyquinolin-1-ium 2,2,2-trichloroacetate (8-HQ) salts have been synthesized and characterized by FTIR, NMR and UV-Vis absorption spectroscopic methods. The third order nonlinear optical properties (NLO) of the two 8-HQ salts have been investigated by z-scan technique. The recorded experimental data led to calculate the nonlinear optical absorption coefficient (β), the nonlinear refractive index (n2), the excited-state absorption cross section (σex) and the ground-state absorption cross section (σg) of the studied compounds. The two 8-HQ salts have been found to exhibit large optical nonlinearity. These types of materials may be considering new photonic applications.

Nonlinear Optical Study of 1,1'-Methylenedipyridinium bis[tetrachloride gold(III)] Hybrid Salt

The third-order nonlinear optical properties of 1,1’-methylenedipyridinium bis[tetrachloride gold(III)] were investigated by the z-scan method using CW diode laser. The experimental results led to estimation of the nonlinear optical absorption coefficient (β), the nonlinear optical refraction (n2), and third-order nonlinear optical susceptibility (χ). Our results show that the excited-state absorption cross-sections (σex) is larger than the groundstate absorption cross-sections (σg), this suggests that the nonlinear optical absorption in the MPTC gold(III) is due to the reverse saturable absorption mechanism. Furthermore, the obtained results suggest that our material is considered as a promising candidate for future optical devices applications.
