Thirty‐nine tumor‐bearing patients with metastatic melanoma were treated with 3 subcutaneous injections of the MAGE‐3.A1 peptide at monthly intervals. No significant toxicity was observed. Of the 25 patients who received the complete treatment, 7 displayed significant tumor regressions. All but one of these regressions involved cutaneous metastases. Three regressions were complete and 2 of these led to a disease‐free state, which persisted for more than 2 years after the beginning of treatment. No evidence for a cytolytic T lymphocyte (CTL) response was found in the blood of the 4 patients who were analyzed, including 2 who displayed complete tumor regression. Our results suggest that injection of the MAGE‐3.A1 peptide induced tumor regression in a significant number of the patients, even though no massive CTL response was produced. Int. J. Pseudoxanthoma-elasticum-like papillary dermal elastolysis : a new case

Céline Pirard; F. Delbrouck-Poot; A. Bourlond

We report the clinicopathological features of an old woman with a recent and progressive development of soft white-yellow papules of the neck and supraclavicular areas reminding of pseudoxanthoma elasticum without systemic involvement. The similarity of this entity with fibroelastopathic papular dermatoses of the neck is briefly discussed.

Sarcome de Kaposi: traitement par facteur de transfert et interféron-alpha-2

A. Bourlond; D. Dubois; R. Deselys

Immunotherapy with interferon and transfer factor has been tried in 2 cases of Kaposi’s sarcoma of the Mediterranean type, without visceral involvement. Clinical benefits appeared almost worthless and biological data hardly improved. On the contrary, side effects such as leucopenia, malaise, mental confusion proved quite impressive. From these 2 observations it might be concluded that interferon is not the treatment of choice of Kaposi’s sarcoma. Transfer factor, much more easy to use, displayed transient efficacity in 1 patient. Fundamentals about Kaposi’s sarcoma and interferon are reviewed.

Un cas de dysplasie oculo-auriculo-vertébrale (Syndrome de Goldenhar) avec atteinte cutanée

D. Willocx; A. Bourlond; A. Vliers; C. Verellen-Dumoulin; R. de Sélys

For the first time, cutaneous dryness and ichthyosis-like aspects are noted in a baby afflicted with Goldenhar’s syndrome. Cardiopulmonary malformations are frequently described in those cases of oculo-auriculo-vertebral dysplasia (DOAV). A florid form of this syndrome is reported and the most important symptoms commented upon. Generally sporadic, the syndrome is, except in few cases, not genetically transmitted; it is thought to be closely related to the first or the two first branchial arch syndromes.

Adénome papillaire eccrine digital agressif

A. Bourlond; M. Frankart; R. Vanwijck; N. Calteux; C. Fiévez

A typical example of digital aggressive eccrine papillary adenoma is reported. The specific histological features are stressed, once again: cribriform pattern; cavities with secretory cells and papill

This case of Werner syndrome proved highly interesting because of severe insulinoresistant diabetes, various complications, myelofibrosis progressing as an acute myeloid leukemia. Recent concepts about the syndrome are commented upon.
