The Akhieser-Pomeranchuk-Blair model analysis of the elastic scattering of 24.7 MeV alpha-particles from heavy nuclei

SummaryThe measured angular distributions of 24.7 MeV alpha-particles elastically scattered from the nuclei Ag, In, Sn, Hf, W, Au, Bi and U have been analysed in terms of the improved Akhieser-Pomeranchuk-Blair model. In these analyses, the parameterslA and ΔlA, respectively the cut-off angular momentum and the range of partial waves over which the transition from complete absorption to no absorption takes place, were found to be adequate and good agreement with experimental results could be obtained.RiassuntoSi sono analizzate le distribuzioni angolari misurate delle particelle alfa di 24.7 MeV diffuse elasticamente dai nuclei di Ag, In, Sn, Hf, W, Au, Bi e U in base al modello di Akhieser-Pomeranchuk-Blair migliorato. In queste analisi si è trovato che i parametrilA e ΔlA, che sono rispettivamente il momento angolare di taglio e l’intervallo di onde parziali entro cui ha luogo la transizione dall’assorbimento completo all’assenza di assorbimento, sono adeguati e si è potuto ottenere un buon accordo con i risultati sperimentali.РеэюмеИэмеренные угловые распределения альфа частиц, с знергией 24.7 MзB упруго рассеянных на ядрах Ag, In, Sn, Hf, W, Au, Bi, и U были проаналиэированы в выражениях улучщенной модели Ахиеэера-Померанч ука-Блазра. При зтих аналиэах было найдено, что параметрыlA и ΔlA, соответственно, параметр обреэания углового момента и область парциальных волн, вне которой имеет место переход от полного поглошения к непоглошению, являются адекватными, и может быть получено хорощее согласие с зкспериментальными реэультатами.

THE AKHIESER--POMERANCHUK--BLAIR MODEL ANALYSIS OF ELASTIC SCATTERING OF ALPHA PARTICLES FROM THE NUCLEI Co, Ni, Mn, Ca, Al, Mg, AND Ne.

SummaryMeasured angular distributions of 24.7 MeV alpha particles elastically scattered from Co, Mn, Ni, Ca, Al and Mg and 20.9 MeV alpha particles from Ne were analysed in terms of the smoothed Akhieser-Pomeranchuk-Blair model. A good agreement was found in most cases up to about 90° and in some cases beyond; agreement is comparatively poor in Ca, Mg and Ne. Si è trovato un buon accordo in molti casi sino a 90° e in alcuni casi oltre; l’accordo è piuttosto scarso per Ca, Mg e Ne. Dai parametri di ottima approssimazione dell’analisi si sono ottenuti il raggio di interazione e la diffusività superficiale.РеэюмеАналиэируются иэмеренные угловые распределения α-частиц с знергией 27.4 МзВ, упруго рассеянных ядрами Co, Mn, Ni, Ca, Al и Mg, и α-частиц с знергией 20.9 МзВ, рассеянных на Nе в рамках сглаженной модели Ахиеэера-Померанчу ка-Блзйра. Обнаружено хорощее согласие в больщинстве случаев для углов вплоть до 90° и в некоторых случаях для больщих углов; согласие сравнительно плохое для Ca, Mg и Ne. Определены радиус вэаимодействия и диффуэионная поверхность, исходя иэ параметров, наиболее отвечаюших аналиэу.

The semiclassical APE model is employed in analysing the angular distribution of protons elastically scattered from Fe, Cu, and Ag; deuterons from Ni, Zr, Ag, and Er; aHe.particles from Cd and I; and a-particles from 1. Effects of different parameters have been studied and the best·fit parameters obtained.

The Akhieser?Pomeranchuk?Blair Model Analysis for Elastic Scattering of Deuterons

Angular distributions of deuterons elastically scattered from Mg, Fe, Cu, and Zn have been analysed in terms of the smoothed Akhieser-Pomeranchuk-Blair model and reasonable agreement was obtained in each case up to about 90°. The interaction radius R and the surface thickness f),.R were obtained from the best-fit parameter values.

PHOTOGRAPHIC EMULSION PLATE CAMERA FOR GAS AND SOLID TARGETS.

Abstract A camera has been designed for studying scattering processes for both gas and solid targets over a wide range of angles using nuclear emulsion as detector. Performance of the camera has been tested by studying elastic scattering of 2.6 MeV protons from xenon. The measured cross-section as a ratio to cosec 4 ( 1 2 θ) has been found to be constant over a range of angles as expected.
