Thermal stability of copolymers of decyl methacrylate with styrene

A. I. Akhmedov; T. Kh. Akchurina; A. M. Levshina; S. M. Guseinzade; É. U. Isakov

This article investigates the influence of the molecular weight of a copolymer, its chemical composition, and the concentration of the copolymer in mineral oil on thermal stability. The thermooxidative stability of copolymers was examined in a dynamic regime of heating from 20/sup 0/ to 500/sup 0/C at a rate of 5/sup 0/C/min. by means of thermal analysis. The breakdown rate constant was calculated at 200/sup 0/, 210/sup 0/ and 220/sup 0/C in order to investigate the effect of temperature on the rate and to calculate the activation energy. It is determined that as the molecular weight of the copolymer is increased from 11,000 to 17,000, the thermal stability decreases. Increasing the content of styrene in the copolymer composition improves its thermal stability.

Synthesis of allyl caproate copolymers with styrene and study of these compounds as viscous additives to petroleum oils

A. I. Akhmedov; D. Sh. Gamidova; S. T. Mekhtieva

Viscous additives resistant to destructive actions and corresponding to increased requirements to machines have been obtained. The copolymerization of allyl caproate with styrene by the radical mechanism in presence of a radical initiator was carried out, and the influence of various factors on the process and the quality of the viscous additives to petroleum oils was studied.

Cooligomers of 1-hexene with dicyclopentadiene as synthetic components to petroleum oils

A. I. Akhmedov; N. A. Talyshova; A. M. Gasanova

Cooligomers of 1-hexene with dicyclopentadiene were synthesized. Depending on the cooligomerization conditions, cooligomers with the molecular weight of 1000–4000, containing 10–20% dicyclopentadiene units, were obtained in a 76–92% yield. Aluminum chloride was used as the cooligomerization catalyst. The cooligomers synthesized were tested as components to M-6 and I-12A petroleum oils with the view of increasing their viscosity. The use of 25–40% cooligomer in these oils allows preparation of base oils with the viscosity index of 93–126. The resultant compounded oil possesses anticorrosive properties due to the presence of the dicyclopentadiene units in the cooligomer.

Synthesis of copolymers of decyl methacrylate with o-allylphenol and their investigation as viscosity improving additives for petroleum oils

V. M. Farzaliev; E. I. Gasanova; A. I. Akhmedov

The synthesis of copolymers of decyl methacrylate with o-allylphenol was performed. The influence of various factors on the results of the process was studied, conditions ensuring producing copolymers with specified characteristics were found. The synthesized copolymers were used to improve the viscosity-temperature characteristics of petroleum oils. Antioxidant properties of the compounds were studied and the fact that they improve and antioxidant properties of mineral oils was confirmed.

Synthesis of graft copolymers based on 1-hexene oligomers and their trials as viscosity additives

V. M. Farzaliev; A. I. Akhmedov; D. Sh. Gamidova; E. U. Isakov; N. A. Talyshova

Copolymers of decyl methacrylate with 1-hexene were prepared and tested as viscosity additives to petroleum oils. The influence of the concentration of the synthesized copolymers on the viscosity-temperature characteristics of petroleum oils was examined, and the thermal and mechanical stability of the copolymers in oils was evaluated.
