Other Antireflux Procedures in Infants with GERD

Pedro Olivares; A. Leggio

Other surgical procedures have been used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux, and new endoscopic and laparoscopic techniques are still being proposed. Although seldom used these days, the operation proposed by Narbona enjoyed some popularity in the past in Europe. In this procedure, the liver round ligament is divided at its entrance into the parenchyme, passed around the distal intraabdominal esophagus, and sutured on itself to form a loop that tractions the incisura angularis downwards, thus lengthening the intraabdominal esophagus and sharpening the angle of His. Its technical simplicity made it suitable for laparoscopic approach [1-3]. There are no recent references about its use but, according to the existing clinical, manometric, and pH-metric evidence, it was effective in the treatment of reflux.
