Abstract We have developed a new CAMAC data acquisition system for high-energy nuclear reaction experiments using a transputer and a transputer link, i.e., a high-speed serial communication channel. In this system, a CAMAC crate is connected with a host computer more easily than in a conventional system using a Branch Driver and a Branch Highway. Although the connection is rather simple, a data transfer speed up to 180 Kbyte/s has been obtained, which is comparable with that obtained with a conventional system.

In administrating large-scale PC clusters, installation/updating, configuration and monitoring of system are hard work for system administrators to maintain them especially in the case where node hosts exceeds over several hundreds. We have used several tools for the purpose in our Linux cluster which consists of a hundred CPUs. Some tools were developed and is being developed ourselves and others are from UNIX community. In this paper we introduce their functionality, usability and performance with experience on our Linux PC cluster.

The Belle collaboration is now building a detector at the KEKB B factory at KEK in Japan. Its goal is to study the origin of CP violation. The experiment will be commissioned in 1999. In this paper the computing model of the Belle experiment is described.

Abstract The first measurement of the invariant cross sections and polarizations of Λ hyperons produced by the reaction π − 6 Li → ΛX at 4 GeV /c in the backward angular region ( 70° lab ) has been done. In the measured region the production with free nucleons was kinematically forbidden. All the experimental results are reproduced by a quark-parton model calculation.
