Morphological segmentation of histology cell images

A. Nedzved; Sergey Ablameyko; Ioannis Pitas

Two algorithms for segmentation of cell images are proposed. They have a unique part that contains computation of morphological gradient to extract object borders and thinning the obtained borders to get a line of one-pixel thickness. For this task, we propose the fast gray-scale thinning algorithm that is based on the idea of the analysis of binary image layers. Then, the obtained one-pixel lines are used to extract cells and compute their characteristics. The algorithms based on morphological and split/merge segmentation are developed and used for this task.

Gray-scale thinning by using a pseudo-distance map

A. Nedzved; Seiichi Uchida; Sergey Ablameyko

In this paper, the algorithm for thinning of grey-scale images is proposed that is based on a pseudo-distance map (PDM). The PDM is a simplified distance map of gray-scale image and uses only that features of image and objects that are necessary to build a skeleton. The algorithm works fast for large gray-scale images and allows constructing a high quality skeleton

Augmented 3D Endoscopy Video

A. Nedzved; V. Bucha; Sergey Ablameyko

Estimation of 3D surface of a scene from a set of two or more images of that scene taken from the same point of view with different camera focal setting parameters is known as depth from focus/defocus problem. In this paper a system for 3D object reconstruction from endoscopy video is proposed which uses the same focal setting parameters for camera with different points of view of scene. In addition for preventing the undesired vessels dissection during operation, 3D video is augmented with extracted and recognized vessels. The vessels extraction is done with a novel real-time grey image thinning algorithm.

Color Thinning with Applications to Biomedical Images

A. Nedzved; Yurii Ilyich; Sergey Ablameyko; Sei Ichiro Kamata

A scheme for cell extraction in color histological images based edge detection and thinning is considered. An algorithm for thinning of color images is proposed that is based on thinning of pseudo gray-scale image. To extract accurately gray-scale levels, we propose a new coordinate system for color representation: system PHS, where P is a vector of color distance, H is a hue (chromaticity), S is a relative saturation. This coordinate system allows one to take into account specifics of histological images. Comparison of image thinning in other coordinate color systems is given that shows the image thinning in PHS system produces a rather high-quality skeleton of the objects in a color image. The proposed algorithm was tested on the histological images.

A scheme is proposed to develop image processing and analysis software based on the generation of thesaurus tables in the interpreter’s kernel. The scheme is based on the combined features of dynamic libraries and an interpreter with a set of functions for image processing. As a result, the program can be divided into two parts: the first is aimed at professional software developers, and the second at users. The interpreter is able to use extra functions of dynamic libraries. It makes it possible to change the properties of the software without compilation. On the other hand, users can change the graphical interface to improve the convenience of the workplace.

Building the regional system for seismic data processing

A. Nedzved; A. Belotserkovsky; Pavel Lukashevich

The complex of software facilities for seismic data processing is proposed here. The schemes for information workflows and data structure are described to build a model of geological environment. Complex, which is at the stage of active developing, includes all tools for effective analysis of seismic and geophysical data. Architecture allows modifications and building-up the functionality and avoids manual repeated computational routine.

The new approach for reliable UAV navigation based on onboard camera image processing

Pavel Lukashevich; A. Belotserkovsky; A. Nedzved

In this paper a principle scheme of new approach to Reliable Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Navigation (UAV) is purposed. It consists in building a reliable reserve control channel and using it together with well-known GPS/INS scheme. The idea of the approach lies in the usage of information from the onboard camera directed at nadir to enhance positioning of UAVs to.

A. Nedzved; Sergey Ablameyko; A. Belotserkovsky; A. Maziewski; Wojciech Dobrogowski

Algorithm of magnetic structure extraction and analysis in ultra thin magnetic film images is proposed. This algorithm allows to gain successful results and calculates a large number of characteristics of structures on magneto-optical images. The algorithm consists of three parts: background correction, structure extraction and calculation of dendrite characteristics. For correction of magnetic image we use methods for magneto-optic contrast. One of the basic features of structure extraction part is a preservation of border properties. Therefore the basic processing of extraction is applied for binary image. Proposed characteristics allow to describe and to classify dendrites. For analysis of complex magnetics structures topological properties are calculated for three basic objects types: body, holes and gulf. The software system ldquoZubrrdquo has been realized for magnetic structure image analysis.
