Electrical resistivity of intercalated molybdenum disulfide

A. M. Hermann; R. B. Somoano; V. Hadek; A. Rembaum

Abstract The electrical resistivity of hexagonal synthetic single crystals and natural crystals of MoS 2 intercalated with alkali metals (K, Rb and Cs) has been measured. The average room-temperature values is 0.004 ω-cm, and the best single crystal data on K 0.4 MoS 2 showed at T 1.5 temperature behaviour characteristic of acoustical phonon scattering for a quasi-isotropic metal. The metallic behaviour and scattering mechanism are discussed.

The alkaline earth intercalates of molybdenum disulfide

R. B. Somoano; V. Hadek; A. Rembaum; S. Samson; John A. Woollam

Molybdenum disulfide has been intercalated with calcium and strontium by means of the liquid ammonia technique. Chemical, x−ray, and superconductivity data are presented. The x−ray data reveal a lowering of crystal symmetry and increase of complexity of the structure upon intercalation with the alkaline earth metals. The Ca and Sr intercalates start to superconduct at ∼4 and 5.6°K, respectively, and show considerable anisotropy regarding the critical magnetic field.

Stability of polyacetylene films

S.P.S. Yen; Robert B. Somoano; S. K. Khanna; A. Rembaum

Abstract The oxidative and radiation stability of polyacetylene films have been determined. The radiation stability of the material is found to be quite good but the intrinsic thermal oxidative stability is poor and presents a serious obstacle to widespread terrestrial or space use.

The Polymerization of 3-Dimethylamino-n-Propyl Chloride and the Formation of Star-Shaped and Branched Polyelectrolytes

S. P. S. Yen; D. Casson; A. Rembaum

It has been shown recently (1) that, under well-defined conditions, step-growth polymerization is the predominant process in the reaction of a diamine of structure I with a dihalide of structure II, where x and y are the number of CH2 groups in the diamine and the dihalide, respectively, and Z is Cl, Br, or I.
