AbstractOptical spectra of the C60Cl24 halofullerene in the crystalline state, as well as of C60Cl24 matrixisolated molecules, were studied. In both cases, a rich line structure was revealed in absorption spectra in the energy region 1.5–3.0 eV. An energy diagram of the electronic levels of the molecule which are responsible for the observed optical transitions is proposed. The parameters of the geometrical structure of the C60Cl24 molecule were calculated under the assumption of its having Th symmetry. These data were used in a theoretical study of the embedment of the C60Cl24 molecule in a toluene crystal matrix, which leads to the formation of a fine spectral structure (an analog of the Shpol’ski

The Zeeman effect in the emission spectra of localized excitons in semiconductor solid solutions has been studied by selective laser spectroscopy. It was shown that the fine structure appearing in the emission spectra of GaSe1−xTex crystals under resonant monochromatic excitation in a magnetic field originates from spin relaxation of the light-induced localized excitons between their Zeeman sublevels. The localized-exciton g factor and its dependence on the energy of localized-exciton formation and solid-solution composition has been measured.

Abstract We have offered a method of obtaining fine-structured vibronic spectra of fullerenes. At liquid-helium temperatures tens of narrow lines with half-width ≈ 0.5 me V have been observed in the emission and absorption spectra of fullerene molecules embedded in the matrices of some organic crystals. Using this method, the Zeeman effect on the C 70 molecules has been observed for the first time.

The new results on high-resolution spectroscopy of C70 molecules in crystalline matrices are presented. By using luminescence excitation spectroscopy the vibronic structure of the first electronically excited singlet state was recorded separately for different non equivalently sited groups of C70 molecules in Shpolskii matrix. The drastic increase of the triplet emission intensity in matrix-isolated fullerene derivative C60-polypyrrole as compared with the intensity of the triplet emission of pristine C60 was observed.
