Experimental study of the effect of heating the humid air in different positions in a new desalination system, by HDH process, using solar energy

Sara Ladouy; Abdelhamid Khabbazi

This experimental work is part of increasing the profitability of a new sea water desalination system. The studied system is single stage, using the method of Humidification Dehumidification (HDH) combined, instantaneous (shorten up the HDH cycle), composed of a plate condenser cooled by sea water and the envelope of the system cooled by the ambient air, where the solar energy was used to heat the air and the water in closed system through natural convection. The current study was operated at the laboratory scale to determine the effect of heating the humid air in different altitudes of the unit on its daily production. Thus the temperature in the different part of the system was analyzed to determine its reaction to the variation of altitude Subsequently, its effect on the daily flow rate of distillate. The results justify the feasibility of the proposed system, since we got an augmentation of 8% compared to conventional solar still.

This work is a contribution to understand the thermal properties of Illite with ecological additives granular presented by cork or fiber by wool in order to use those composites in building construction, the composites are air dried. Knowing that the clay composites were studied before, a series of experimental studies confirmed by complete theoretical models were conducted using different methods such as the asymmetrical hot plate in transient, steady-state regime, and flash methods in order to determine the thermal properties of the composite clay with ecological additives. Also, an analysis of sensibility of thermal properties was studied. For this purpose, a thermal characterization using hot plate and flash methods confirmed by complete theoretical models was studied. Then an analysis of the physicochemical characterization of clay was done to determine its characteristics. Finally, a study of depth heat flow diffusion was conducted to see the effect of additives on penetrating exterior heat flow inside house.

Energy requirement, fuel comsumption and environmental impact of heating residentiel building - Case study of Fez

Rachida Idchabani; Mohamed Garoum; Abou-bakr Cherki; Abdelhamid Khabbazi

The seasonal energy requirements and fuel consumption for heating purposes in the residential buildings in the city of Fez is estimated from the predetermined architectural design and material characteristics of the buildings and the regular meteorological temperature measurements by using the degree-days method. The environmental impact of heating in term of equivalent CO2 emission is also investigated for two sources of energy: liquefied petroleum gas and electricity. As a conclusion, the length of the heating period is average 194 days, and the mean heating degree-days value is found as 1039 besides changing between 895.8 and 1171. The heating energy requirement for the prototype building varies between 132 and 217 kwh/m2 depending on glassing type, glassing area percentage and infiltration rate. In term of kgoe, electricity consumption is 2.6 times greater than that of LPG. By using LPG instead of electricity as a fuel, the emissions of greenhouse gases can be devised by 3.
