Abstract In the past, Cellular Automata based models and machines [1] have been proposed for simulation of physical systems without any analytical insight into the behaviour of the underlying simulation machine. This paper makes a significant departure from this traditional approach. An elegant mathematical model using simple matrix algebra is reported in this paper for characterizing the behaviour of two-dimensional nearest neighbourhood linear cellular automata with null and periodic boundary conditions. Based on this mathematical model, a VLSI architecture of a Cellular Automata Machine (CAM) has been proposed. Interesting applications of CAM in the fields of image analysis and fractal image generation are also reported.

Abstract This paper presents an elegant mathematical model using simple matrix algebra for characterising the behaviour of two-dimensional nearest neighbourhood linear cellular automata with periodic boundary conditions. Based on this mathematical model, the VLSI architecture of a Cellular Automata Machine (CAM) has been proposed for text compression. Experimental results of comparisons with adaptive Huffman coding scheme also presented.

Assessment is a systematical process of collecting, analyzing and employing quantitative and qualitative data from different resources about educational programs, to improve students learning, and to evaluate whether Program outcomes are being achieved or not. This paper presents rubric based assessment plan for Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) specified A-K Program outcomes evaluation for Computer Science program. This paper also demonstrates an effective and efficient practical approach to evaluate the Program outcomes for quality enhancement.

Abstract: The multilingual websites are highly used to serve the website users using different languages. These websites need to receive the users satisfaction both at the local and the global level. However, following certain standards and guidelines while developing multilingual websites, may help the developers to design such websites with high usability rates. To the best of our knowledge, there is no such framework or a standard available to develop an Arabic/ English bilingual website. In this paper, we highlight certain issues, which may be well used to develop a framework for designing multilingual websites in Arabic-English. The key usability issues from the educational websites have been considered in the proposed framework. The framework is based on the analysis of a survey sample of 200 responses and observation test conduction with 36 participants.

Abstract Information security is a growing concern among various organizations and companies worldwide. Though organizations are generally focusing on external security threats but there could be substantial threats within the organization. This paper presents a detailed survey conducted on various organizations of Saudi Arabia to have a deep insight into how the issues of deterrence for the information security violation are dealt with within organizations. It focuses on the awareness and effectiveness of information security policies of the organization among its employees.

Image processing employing software routines are time consuming in compared to their counterfeits of hardware strategies. Cellular automata appear as abstract models of systems in image manipulation due to their local nature, inherently parallel and computationally simple implementation. This paper addresses a hardware framework based on two dimensional cellular automata, for manipulating images in certain specific positions and orientations. The proposed architecture can be easily implemented using VLSI technology.
