In general, on-line medical consultation reduces time required for medical consultation and induces improvement in the quality and efficiency of healthcare services. The scope of study includes several key features of present day e-health applications such as X-ray, ECG, video, diagnosis images and other common applications. Moreover, the provision of Quality of Service (QoS) in terms of specific medical care services in e-health, the priority set for e-health services and the support of QoS in wireless networks and techniques or methods aimed at IEEE 802.11 to secure the provision of QoS has been assessed as well. In e-health, medical services in remote places which include rustic healthcare centres, ships, ambulances and home healthcare services can be supported through the applications of e-health services such as medical databases, electronic health data and the transferring of text, video, sound and images. Given this, a proposal has been made for a multiple service wireless networking with multiple sets of priorities. In relation to the terms of an acceptable QoS level by the customers of e-health services, prioritization is an important criterion in a multi-traffic network. The requirement for QoS in medical networking of wireless broadband has paved the way for bandwidth prerequisites and the live transmission or real-time medical applications. The proposed wireless network is capable of handling medical applications for both normal and life-threatening conditions as characterized by the level of emergencies. In addition, the allocation of bandwidth and the system that controls admittance designed based on IEEE 802.16 especially for e-health services or wireless telemedicine will be discussed in this study. It has been concluded that under busy traffic conditions, the proposed architecture can used as a feasible and reliable infrastructure network for telemedicine.

Timetabling at large covering many different types of problems which have their own unique characteristics. In education, the three most common academic timetabling problems are school timetable, university timetable and exam timetable. Exam timetable is crucial but difficult to be done manually due to the complexity of the problem. The main problem includes dual academic calendar, increasing student enrolments and limitations of resources. This study presents a solution method for exam timetable problem in centre for foundation studies and extension education (FOSEE), Multimedia University, Malaysia. The method of solution is a heuristic approach that include graph colouring, cluster heuristic and sequential heuristic.

Genetic Algorithms (GAs) is proven to be effective in solving many optimization tasks. GAs is one of the optimization tools used widely in solving problems based on natural selection and genetics. This paper is intended to cover the study of GA and parallel GA and analyses its usage in CPU and GPU. One of the popular ways to speed up the processing time was by running them as parallel. The idea of parallel GAs may refer to an algorithm that works by dividing large problem into smaller tasks. Broad literature review in this paper includes a categorization of the GA operations that involved with some theories and techniques used in GA, presented with the aid of diagrams. This review attempts to study and analyse the behaviour of GA and parallel GA categories to work in GPU depending on the type of genetic algorithm. Parallel GA for GPU covers the architecture of Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA).

Telemedicine is not yet all worked out where it can be utilized constantly or flexibly. But, it has enormous potential to be a tremendous asset to the world and all its civilizations. Telemedicine has had a positive impact on some aspects of patient care. There is no arguing that the contributions it can make have endless possibilities however more time and effort will be needed to organize telemedicine for it to be confidently accepted. Asynchronous telemedicine does not require the simultaneous availability of the source and recipient of patient information. Telemedicine can be roughly characterized as either synchronous or asynchronous. Synchronous telemedicine involves caregivers acquiring and acting upon information about a remote patient in near real-time.

A reverse direction transmission and block acknowledgement are the main features to improve the performance of MAC layer based on next generation wireless LANs. When the data send it in reverse direction from side A to B, side B does not need to send separate ACK, it may wait for a period of time is less than the senders time of period to avoid the retransmission at sender and send a piggyback frame (ACK+data) this called piggybacking. Piggyback with block ACK represented in multi data send from side A to B with block ACK request (BAR), side B send block ACK (BA) piggybacking with multi data to side A, this called piggybacking with block ACK. In our scheme here we want to propose a novel reverse direction transmission using piggyback and piggyback with block ACK which is divided each data frame send and receive into subframes and send each subframe separately, if there is an error happened during the transmission only retransmission the corrupted subframe instead of whole frame. We want to implement this work in NS2 simulator. The research contributions are summarized and the piggyback schemes that need to be investigated via high speed wireless LANs are also highlighted.

The main problem at wireless networks is the overhe ad at MAC layer; when the data physical rate is increasing it causes increasing the overhead and de creasing at the MAC efficiency. In this study we st udy the performance comparison of TCP protocol in WLANs with and without using piggyback. The study of results concerning of implemented both mechanisms in NS2 simulator and find out the good performance from this comparison. Based on the results from our experiments show that the Piggyback scheme is one of the efficient ways to reduce the overhead at MAC wi reless networks.

Attenuation of GSM, GPS and personal communication signal leads to poor communication inside the building using regular shapes of energy saving glass coating. Thus, the transmission is very low. A brand new type of band pass frequency selective surface (FSS) for energy saving glass application is presented in this paper for one unit cell. Numerical Periodic Method of Moment approach according to a previous study has been applied to determine the new optimum design of one unit cell energy saving glass coating structure. Optimization technique based on the Genetic Algorithm (GA) is used to obtain an improved in return loss and transmission signal. The unit cell of FSS is designed and simulated using the CST Microwave Studio software at based on industrial, scientific and medical bands (ISM). A unique and irregular shape of an energy saving glass coating structure is obtained with lower return loss and improved transmission coefficient.

Iris recognition is the most accurate biometric identification system on hand. Most iris recognition systems use algorithms developed by Daugman. The performance of iris recognition is highly depends on edge detection. Canny is the edge detectors which commonly used. The objectives of this research are to a) study the edge detection criteria and b) measure the PSNR values in estimating the noise between the original iris feature and new iris template. The eye image with [320×280] dimension is obtained from the CASIA database which has been pre-processed through the segmentation and normalization in obtaining the rubber sheet model with [20×240] in dimension. Once it has been produced, the important information is extracted from the iris. Results show that, the PSNR values of iris feature before and after the process of extraction, was 24.93 and 9.12. For sobel and prewitt, both give 18.5 after the process. Based on our findings, the impact of edge detection techniques produces higher accuracy in iris recognition system.

The integration of steganography in biometric system is a solution for enhancing security in iris. The process of biometric enrollment and verification is not highly secure due to hacking activities at the biometric point system such as overriding iris template in database. In this paper, we proposed an enhancement of temporal-spatial domain algorithm which involves the scheme of Least Significant Bits (LSB) as the new model which converts iris images to binary stream and hides into a proper lower bit plane. Here, the stego key, n, will be inserted into the binary values from the plane which concealed the information; where n is the input parameter in binary values which inserted to the iris codes, m. These values produce the output which is the new iris stego image after binary conversion. Theoretically, the proposed model is promising a high security performance implementation in the future.

As a meta-heuristic algorithm, Harmony Search (HS) algorithm is a population-based meta-heuristics approach that is superior in solving diversified large scale optimization problems. Several studies have pointed that Harmony Search (HS) is an efficient and flexible tool to resolve optimization problems in diversed areas of construction, engineering, robotics, telecommunication, health and energy. In this respect, the three main operators in HS, namely the Harmony Memory Consideration Rate (HMCR), Pitch Adjustment Rate (PAR) and Bandwidth (BW) play a vital role in balancing the local exploitation and the global exploration. These parameters influence the overall performance of HS algorithm, and therefore it is very crucial to fine turn them. However, when performing a local search, the harmony search algorithm can be easily trapped in the local optima. Therefore, there is a need to improve the fine tuning of the parameters. This research focuses on the HMCR parameter adjustment strategy using step function with combined Gaussian distribution function to enhance the global optimality of HS. The result of the study showed a better global optimum in comparison to the standard HS.
